MCHC’s chartered purposes are the initiating and conducting of programs suggested by the
McLennan County Commissioner’s Court and the Texas Historical Commission for the preservation of the county’s historic cultural resources.
McLennan County, from it's 1850 beginning, is unique within itself. With the county seat being in Waco, the history of the county and it's county seat often seem to blend together in perfect erythematic harmony. If one listens long enough while standing along the Brazos River which runs through downtown, it is said that the hoofs of cattle and horses, and the squeaking of wagon wheels can still be heard crossing the great Suspension Bridge.
With a population of about 245,000, McLennan County has contributed much to the development of Texas. In joint efforts with the County’s Commissioner’s Court, MCHC shall endeavor to show the richness of history while holding the dignity of the county is its highest honor.
